Are you Stressed or Depressed
By Prof. Liwayway Memije-Cruz
Stress is not what happens to us. It's our response TO what happens. And RESPONSE is something we can choose. ~ Maureen Killora
Every one of us have been through with some kind of stress and even depressed in some points of our lives. Stress or depression can be due to conditions like beating deadlines, being late, caught by the traffic, nothing to eat or nothing to spend or simply some stains in our clothes. Is stress a depression too? Medical experts say that depression is a mental state characterized by a marked sense of inadequacy and a tendency to avoid a certain activity. Stress in its most extreme form is actually depression. Going through some kind of stressful conditions could affect one’s well-being. Traumas of being left alone due to death or separation from someone very close to you or even frustrations due to consistent failures and disappointments can really affect one’s mind and even the heart.
Being stressed is a part of our lives. Absolutely, we can never ever eliminate stress. It simply involves management or how we deal with it. Stress is a matter of making our lives more exciting and could even provide us some adventures, challenges and lessons in our lives. Of course, nobody among us would want to look older than our actual age or die at an early age or even not be pleasing to the eyes of people around us and be failures. Most people now are into joining spiritual groups, sports, nutritional diets, wellness, meditation and yoga just to do something about the stress they have in dealing with their families and jobs. Malls and parks are everywhere. Derma clinics and all sorts of SPA are all around. Information and communication technologies are also being considered. We even have improved cell phones, internet games and social networking making lives more challenging, exciting and even more colorful.. These only show that people nowadays are aware of themselves and are really trying to manage their lives, with special attention to health in particular.
Now how do you know that you are stressed or even depressed? Health experts provide us with a list from which you can examine yourself and try to do something about them if you would still want to live longer or even look younger.
